The idea of writing eco-songs came to Chris Philpott (56) in 1999 when he was writing his book about global environmental problems and spiritual traditions. Chris found his research so depressing that he turned to song writing as a form of therapy.

Chris made his first public appearance as "eco-man" at the Leamington peace festival that year. Tom met Chris when he was performing in another guise - as Kristoff the Clown - at Leamington Old Town fair that November. They hit it off musically and decided to form a band called the Eco-Warriors...shortly afterwards the name got changed to Eco-Worriers (at the suggestion of Andrew Kent) which was felt to be less aggressive-sounding.

The Eco Worriers had their first big gig in London on Valentine's Day 2003 prior to the massive anti-war march. Since then we've done over 50 gigs. From 2004 to 2006 we spent a lot of time recording our CD “ Capitalism is killing the Earth” using the talents of local singers and musicians. In 2006 we decided to expand the band to expand the sound. We were joined by Luke (14) on lead guitar, Gaz (18) on the bass, and Will (26) on percussion. In 2008, we reformed as the original two-piece lineup. In January 2009, Tom moved to Carlisle and started playing these songs up there

Meanwhile, Chris was joined by Gitta Ashworth on vocals and continued to play in Leamington Spa.

1. To propagate through our music a more widespread understanding of environmental problems and solutions. To use music, as a means to circumvent the mass media machine and inform the general public about threats that this planet faces. We come from a long tradition of informing people in song about threats to our survival. The troubadours of the Middle Ages sang songs to inform, Dylan, the Levellers, and more recently Seize the Day carry on the tradition. With the threat of peak oil and climate change upon us now is the time to use music as a political and campaigning tool with a clear lyrical message and catchy tune. Now is the time to provide music of the streets where people can sing along in unison and join in an expression of mass protest. For each environmental problem we aim to provide a specific song to address the issues associated with it and give people a musical voice to express themselves. Our songs express our passion for the earth and the need to live in sustainable ways.

2.. To overcome the elitist attitude towards music and singing often propagated by musicians themselves.We therefore seek to work in collaboration with other musicians and singers and welcome people joining in with our music through singing and playing other instruments.

3..To help express in music and song the emerging positive and alternative non materialistic culture which values people before profit and the environment before greed. To present an alternative viewpoint to the present capitalist system by expressing a green vision in our music.

4..To give musical expression to the green movement by offering support by writing songs on specific protests and campaigns and turn up for free to perform them.

5.. To raise money for green causes by performing benefit concerts for free. To make a donation to green causes by giving away free our CD to green organisations that can sell it to raise funds.
